Updated

Abstract

Essence

Recovered COVID-19 patients, especially those previously hospitalized, showed slower processing speed and cognitive control that related to memory encoding impairment.

Evidence

An observational cognitive testing study assessed 61 controls, symptomatic COVID-19 survivors, and hospitalized COVID-19 survivors using tools including the Five-Digit Test and Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test.

Caveat

The abstract reports group associations in a modest observational sample, so it cannot prove that COVID-19 severity directly caused the cognitive slowing or memory impairment.
