Differences in biological aging linked to instant versus filtered coffee in UK Biobank data

The study included 49,414 participants from the UK Biobank.

  • Instant coffee consumption is associated with greater biological age acceleration, particularly in those consuming more than 3 cups per day.
  • Filtered coffee consumption is linked to reduced biological age acceleration across all consumption levels.
  • Similar trends are observed for biological aging metrics, including PhenoAge acceleration and relative leukocyte telomere length.
  • Mediation analysis indicates that factors like basal metabolic rate and glycoprotein acetylation may mediate the effects of coffee on biological aging.
  • Glycoprotein acetylation accounts for 34.62% of the effect of instant coffee on biological age acceleration.
