Genes controlling immune-response brain support cells identified by large-scale CRISPR screening

Updated

Abstract

A total of 772 genes have been identified that modulate the interferon-responsive microglia (IRM) state.

  • The IRM state is associated with functions such as synaptic pruning, dead cell removal, and neuroinflammation.
  • Canonical interferon signaling genes, including IFNAR2, TYK2, STAT1/2, and USP18, play a role in regulating IRM.
  • A novel regulatory role for the CNOT10 protein in IRM activation has been uncovered.
  • The findings provide a resource for further investigation into the functions of interferon-responsive microglia.
