Spanish version and scoring of the short Internet Gaming Disorder scale

Updated

Abstract

A sample of 2173 videogame players aged 12 to 22 was used to validate the Spanish version of the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form (IGDS9-SF).

  • The Spanish IGDS9-SF demonstrated a unifactorial structure with sufficient reliability and internal consistency.
  • Good construct validity was established, with IGDS9-SF scores positively associated with gaming frequency and general health problems.
  • Scores were more strongly associated with problematic cognitions related to videogames.
  • Factorial invariance was validated concerning the age of participants.
  • The scale showed consistent structure across genders, but lacked metric and scalar invariance.
