Creating Japanese Versions of Short Questionnaires for Mystical and Difficult Experiences

Japanese versions of the 4-item Mystical Experience Questionnaire (MEQ-4) and the 7-item Challenging Experience Questionnaire (CEQ-7) have been developed.

• Psychedelics are associated with mystical-type and challenging experiences that can be measured.
• The 30-item Mystical Experience Questionnaire (MEQ-30) and the 26-item Challenging Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) are commonly used tools for this measurement.
• Shorter versions of these questionnaires, the MEQ-4 and CEQ-7, may lessen the burden on respondents.
• No Japanese versions of the MEQ-4 and CEQ-7 existed prior to this study.
