Ketamine-assisted group therapy with thinking skills training to treat identity-related trauma: a pilot study

Updated

Abstract

The intervention achieved 100% retention and high satisfaction ratings among eight participants.

  • Participants reported significant reductions in depression, anxiety, and cognitive fusion scores.
  • Qualitative feedback indicated decreased feelings of shame, suicidality, and internalized transphobia.
  • Group belonging, peer validation, and shared identity were identified as key therapeutic factors.
  • The intervention was found to be both feasible and highly acceptable for transgender and gender-expansive adults.
  • This mixed-methods pilot study suggests potential benefits of integrating ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with cognitive processing therapy.
