Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with obesity and dysfunction of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT).

  • Obesity may contribute to the development of atrial fibrillation.
  • Epicardial adipose tissue dysfunction is linked to AF.
  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), like liraglutide, have cardiovascular benefits.
  • The mechanisms connecting GLP-1 RAs to EAT and adipokine signaling are not fully understood.
