Differences Across Regions in How Long COVID Affects Daily Function and Economic Status in Brazil

Abstract

Regional inequalities in healthcare access may worsen functional and occupational outcomes of Long COVID in Brazil.

Significant differences in functional and socioeconomic outcomes were observed among individuals with Long COVID from three centers in Brazil.
Acute disease severity and symptom burden may influence these outcomes.
Contextual factors associated with different regions could also play a role in the disparities noted.

In low- and middle-income countries such as Brazil, regional inequalities in healthcare access and socioeconomic conditions may exacerbate the functional and occupational consequences of Long COVID. This study explored between-center differences in functional and socioeconomic outcomes among individuals with Long COVID from three Brazilian centers in Brazil, while examining how these findings may have been influenced by acute disease severity, symptom burden, and contextual factors.
