Updated

Abstract

Among individuals with Long COVID, 18.8% were diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome.

  • Post-exertional malaise and other symptoms were reported significantly more in those with Long COVID than in those without symptoms or healthy controls.
  • All individuals with Long COVID reported experiencing post-exertional malaise.
  • No significant differences in ME/CFS diagnosis rates were found among individuals with Long COVID, those without symptoms, and controls.
  • A higher risk of developing Long COVID was associated with experiencing more than six symptoms during the initial infection.
  • Symptoms like cognitive impairment and sleep disturbances were common among Long COVID patients but only a subset met ME/CFS criteria.
