Brain and psychological changes over time after psilocybin with compassion-focused preparation

Updated

Abstract

A sample of 105 participants showed sustained increases in absorption following psilocybin intake, particularly after compassion imagery priming.

  • Compassion imagery priming may enhance the effects of psilocybin compared to attention to breathing.
  • Significant increases were observed in measures of decentering and self-compassion after psilocybin intake.
  • Functional MRI classifiers could differentiate brain activity between priming conditions in the high-dose group.
  • Psilocybin is associated with lasting psychological changes that may be influenced by contextual factors.
