Genetic links between specific sleep traits and major depression

Abstract

Short sleep duration is associated with a 1.179 increased risk of major depressive disorder (MDD).

  • Continuous sleep duration may decrease the risk of MDD (odds ratio: 0.998).
  • Insomnia is associated with an increased risk of MDD (odds ratio: 1.233).
  • Daytime napping has a causal effect on the increased risk of MDD (odds ratio: 1.519).
  • No significant causal relationship was found between snoring and the risk of MDD.
  • Obstructive sleep apnea and being a morning person do not appear to affect the risk of MDD.
