Mobile Health Lifestyle Programs and Their Impact on Gestational Diabetes in Overweight and Obese Pregnant Women

Updated

Abstract

mHealth-based lifestyle interventions significantly reduced the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) by 26% compared to usual care.

  • The analysis included 16 randomized controlled trials with a total of 7351 participants.
  • mHealth interventions also significantly decreased the rates of preterm birth by 35% and macrosomia by 41%.
  • Gestational weight gain was reduced by an average of 1.12 kg with mHealth interventions compared to standard care.
  • Subgroup analyses indicated that app-based interventions, those provided by obstetricians, and those targeting Asian populations showed particularly strong reductions in GDM risk.
  • The findings suggest that further rigorous research is necessary to explore the effectiveness of mHealth interventions for GDM prevention.
