Making and Testing Tiny Lipid-Chitosan Particles Carrying Cyclosporine A for Lung Drug Delivery

Updated

Abstract

Nanoparticles were produced with controlled sizes below 200 nm and high encapsulation efficiency (~80%).

  • Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) and solid hybrid nanoparticles (SHNs) were developed for pulmonary drug delivery using microfluidic technology.
  • The SHNs exhibited a positive surface charge and demonstrated good colloidal and thermal stability.
  • In vitro release studies indicated an initial burst release of Cyclosporine A (CyA), followed by sustained release, with approximately 94% cumulative release within 6 hours.
  • The microfluidic approach allowed for narrow size distributions and good reproducibility of nanoparticles.
