MiR-181b may affect glioblastoma cell response to temozolomide by targeting the growth factor receptor

Updated

Abstract

miR-181b was significantly downregulated in recurrent Glioblastoma multiforme tissues compared to initial tissues.

  • Overexpression of miR-181b increased the sensitivity of GBM cells to temozolomide (TMZ).
  • Enhanced levels of miR-181b also promoted TMZ-induced cell death in laboratory and animal models.
  • Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was identified as a direct target of miR-181b.
  • Restoring EGFR levels counteracted the effects of miR-181b and TMZ treatment.
