Mood changes after sleep loss in morning and evening types of healthy people
Updated
Abstract
Significant mood changes were observed in a sample of 60 healthy volunteers based on their circadian preferences.
- Morningness chronotypes experienced a significant increase in depression scores after total sleep deprivation.
- Eveningness chronotypes showed a significant decrease in depression scores after total sleep deprivation.
- Changes in depression scores after total and partial sleep deprivation were significantly different between morningness and eveningness chronotypes.
- The findings indicate that circadian preference may influence the impact of sleep deprivation on mood.
- Adjusting work schedules according to individual circadian characteristics could potentially improve mood alterations.
