Health programs using multiple approaches to help children with obesity and their parents change behaviors

Updated

Abstract

A total of 6,849 participants aged four to nine were included in the analysis of multimodal interventions for childhood obesity.

  • Healthcare-based multimodal interventions likely show little to no difference in physical well-being and mental well-being at 12 months.
  • These interventions may improve objectively-assessed physical activity at 12 months, but evidence is low-certainty.
  • Community-based multimodal interventions likely show little to no difference in mental well-being and BMI z-score at 12 months.
  • Both healthcare and community-based interventions may have little to no effect on health-related quality of life at 12 months.
  • Very low-certainty evidence exists regarding the effects of these interventions on BMI z-score at 12 months.
