Night Eating Patterns in People with Depression
Updated
Abstract
Night eating syndrome was identified in 21.3% of patients with depression.
- Patients with night eating syndrome (NES) showed significant differences in body mass index (BMI) compared to those without NES.
- Higher levels of anxiety and depression were observed in patients with NES, as measured by established inventories.
- Sleep quality, as assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, was reported to be poorer in patients with NES.
- BMI, smoking status, and sleep disturbances were identified as predictors of NES in this population.
- Night eating syndrome is negatively associated with sleep quality and the severity of anxiety and depression.
