Nuciferine's calming and sleep-promoting effects in rodents through serotonin system changes

Updated

Abstract

Nuciferine significantly increased sleep duration and reduced sleep latency in insomnia-induced rodents.

  • Nuciferine decreased locomotor activity and extended sleep duration in a dose-dependent manner.
  • It enhanced total and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep time in normal rats.
  • Nuciferine reversed reductions in sleep time caused by environmental stress.
  • Treatment with Nuciferine improved insomnia symptoms induced by serotonin depletion.
  • Nuciferine administration increased levels of serotonin and its receptor in the hypothalamus of insomniac mice.
