How Nutrition and Inflammation Together Relate to Fatty Liver Disease and Scarring Through Fat Biomarkers

Abstract

Individuals in the highest tertile of the advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI) had a 3.16 times greater odds of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) compared to those in the lowest tertile.

  • A significant positive association exists between ALI levels and the prevalence of both NAFLD and advanced liver fibrosis (AF).
  • Participants in the highest tertile of ALI were also found to have 3.17 times greater odds of developing AF.
  • A nonlinear relationship was observed between ALI and NAFLD, with an inflection point identified at 74.25.
  • Lipid biomarkers, specifically total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, mediated the relationship between ALI and NAFLD by 10.2% and 4.2%, respectively.
