Advances in chronic kidney disease

Best diet for people with chronic kidney disease before dialysis

Updated

Abstract

Moderate protein consumption and a low sodium diet may slow kidney disease progression.

  • Increasing vegetable protein intake could decrease serum phosphorus, uremic toxins, and kidney damage.
  • Obesity is associated with a higher prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD), suggesting that dietary strategies targeting obesity may benefit CKD progression.
  • In individuals with advanced CKD, restricting dietary calcium and phosphorus could minimize vascular calcification.
  • Dietary fiber and vitamin D supplementation may play a role in reducing inflammation in CKD.
