Real-world effects of oral semaglutide on weight, body fat, and metabolism in people with obesity but no diabetes

Updated

Abstract

After 4 months, mean body weight decreased by 5.4 kg in patients with obesity treated with oral semaglutide.

  • The reduction in body weight was primarily due to a decrease in fat mass.
  • Significant decreases in waist circumference and visceral fat were observed.
  • Lean mass showed a small reduction, while muscle strength remained unchanged.
  • Clinically meaningful weight loss was achieved by 44.3% of patients.
  • Improvements were noted in metabolic parameters, inflammatory markers, and depressive symptoms.
