Orforglipron: First Approval for Medical Use

Abstract

In April 2026, orforglipron received its first approval in the USA for long-term weight management in adults with obesity or overweight.

  • Orforglipron is a non-peptide GLP-1 receptor agonist developed for weight management and type 2 diabetes treatment.
  • It is administered orally and used in combination with diet and physical activity.
  • The drug has also been submitted for regulatory review in the EU, Japan, and Canada for similar indications.
  • Phase III clinical evaluation is ongoing for additional conditions, including obstructive sleep apnoea and hypertension.
