Oxytocin and estrogen receptor levels in the pregnancy muscle layer of mice lacking relaxin

Updated

Abstract

Relaxin decreases oxytocin-stimulated contractions in the myometrium.

  • Pregnant relaxin-deficient mice showed significantly decreased oxytocin receptors in the myometrium compared to normal mice on gestation day 18.5.
  • An increase in estrogen receptor alpha was correlated with a decrease in estrogen receptor beta in normal mice at term, but this pattern was absent in relaxin-deficient mice.
  • Relaxin treatment in relaxin-deficient mice did not impact the expression of oxytocin receptors, LGR7, or estrogen receptor alpha.
  • However, relaxin treatment did lead to a significant decrease in estrogen receptor beta levels.
