Use of glucagon-like peptide-1 drugs around surgery and outcomes in very obese patients having robotic urologic operations

Abstract

In a study of 361 obese patients undergoing robotic urologic surgery, GLP-1RA use was not associated with any postoperative complications.

  • No significant association was found between GLP-1RA use and any complications after surgery.
  • Major complications were also not significantly associated with GLP-1RA use.
  • The comprehensive complication index showed no significant difference related to GLP-1RA exposure.
  • Estimated blood loss was reduced but not significantly different in GLP-1RA users compared to controls.
  • Length of hospital stay was shorter in GLP-1RA users, but this difference was not statistically significant.
  • Peak pain scores and emergency department utilization did not differ between the two groups.
