How a once-weekly combined insulin and semaglutide treatment behaves in the body compared to taking each medicine separately in people with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

In a study involving 31 individuals with type 2 diabetes, IcoSema resulted in a 99% higher maximum concentration of semaglutide compared to semaglutide alone.

  • The pharmacokinetics of icodec were not affected when combined with semaglutide in IcoSema.
  • Total exposure of icodec in IcoSema was similar to that of icodec alone, with a 90% confidence interval of 1.06.
  • Semaglutide's total exposure also remained unchanged when administered as part of IcoSema.
  • The maximum concentration of semaglutide was found to be significantly higher and occurred earlier when delivered in IcoSema compared to semaglutide alone.
  • The increased absorption of semaglutide in IcoSema may result from competition for albumin binding at the injection site.
