Imaging the GLP-1 receptor in healthy and diabetic pigs

Abstract

Pancreatic uptake of the tracer [(68)Ga]Ga-DO3A-VS-Cys(40)-Exendin-4 was not reduced by destruction of beta cells in STZ-induced diabetic pigs.

  • Reduced tissue perfusion in the pancreas and kidneys was observed in diabetic pigs using [(15)O]water PET/CT scans.
  • Co-injection of unlabeled Exendin-4 almost completely abolished uptake of the tracer in the pancreas for both non-diabetic and diabetic pigs.
  • No differences in tracer uptake were found between non-diabetic and diabetic pigs.
  • All animals experienced an immediate increase in heart rate following tracer administration.
