Primary cilia help control GLP-1 signaling in insulin-producing pancreatic cells

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Primary cilia organize GLP-1 receptor signaling needed for full insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells.

Evidence

Mechanistic mouse and human islet experiments combined beta-cell cilia loss, GLP-1R localization imaging, ciliary PKA inhibition, and Tulp3 knockdown to test signaling and secretion.

Caveat

The evidence is islet and cellular signaling work, not a whole-animal or clinical test of GLP-1 receptor agonist response.
