Pregnancy protein deficiency in mice leads to changes in offspring's body clock before obesity

Updated

Abstract

Undernourished offspring exhibited increased severity of diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance by 20 weeks of age.

  • Fetal malnutrition in C57BL/6J mice is linked to abnormal daily rhythms in food intake and metabolism.
  • Increased lipogenesis and inflammation were observed in undernourished offspring prior to the onset of obesity.
  • Circadian oscillator genes showed arrhythmic expression in the brain, liver, and muscle of undernourished offspring at both 8 and 20 weeks of age.
  • A reduction in the expression of the clock-associated nuclear receptor Rev-erbalpha was noted in the liver and muscle of undernourished offspring.
