Psychosocial Effects and Appearance Expectations in Women Having Body Shaping After Weight Loss from GLP-1 Treatment Compared to After Bariatric Surgery

Updated

Abstract

Satisfaction with Body scores improved significantly from 43.1 to 72.8 for GLP-1 patients and from 39.6 to 68.5 for post-bariatric patients.

  • Both GLP-1 and post-bariatric cohorts experienced significant improvements in body satisfaction after 6 months, with no significant difference between the two groups.
  • GLP-1 patients had higher preoperative satisfaction scores but demonstrated greater emotional sensitivity to imperfections in body contouring results.
  • In a subgroup analysis of facial outcomes, improvements in aesthetic satisfaction and reductions in wrinkle severity were similar for both groups.
  • Lower baseline psychosocial scores were associated with postoperative dissatisfaction, indicating the importance of pre-surgery psychological assessment.
  • The findings suggest that body contouring outcomes are comparable between GLP-1-induced and bariatric weight loss, although tailored counseling may be necessary.
