Abstract

Essence

Long COVID in this Johannesburg sample was linked to persistent respiratory symptoms and test abnormalities up to about 2 years after infection.

Evidence

This respiratory sub-study assessed 36 adults with self-reported long COVID using symptoms, spirometry, six-minute walk testing, and chest HRCT after excluding respiratory comorbidity and selected exposures.

Caveat

The sample was small and selected from symptomatic cases, with only seven HRCT abnormalities compatible with long COVID and most of those in previously hospitalized patients.
