Quercetin improves glucose metabolism problems in stressed rats through bile acid signaling pathways

Updated

Abstract

Quercetin treatment significantly alleviated depressive-like behaviors and improved glucose metabolic dysregulation in rats subjected to chronic unpredictable mild stress.

  • Quercetin modified bile acid composition in the colonic contents of the rats.
  • Activation of the bile acid-farnesoid x receptor (FXR) and takeda g protein-coupled receptor 5 (TGR5) signaling pathway was observed following quercetin treatment.
  • Secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) was enhanced with quercetin administration.
  • These changes are associated with improved glycemic and lipid homeostasis.
  • Quercetin may serve as a dual-target therapeutic agent for stress-related metabolic and neurobehavioral disorders.
