Abstract

Resmetirom has received accelerated FDA approval based on its safety and efficacy in achieving metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) resolution and fibrosis regression.

  • Resmetirom is a liver-directed thyroid hormone receptor beta agonist.
  • It is associated with improvements in liver histology for patients with MASH and significant fibrosis.
  • The MAESTRO trial provided evidence for its reasonable safety profile.
  • Noninvasive tests may be useful for selecting and monitoring patients receiving resmetirom.
  • The review discusses the real-world utility of resmetirom in treating liver disease.
