Sacubitril/valsartan and its effects on health problems in heart failure patients with severe kidney disease: a nationwide real-world study

Updated

Abstract

Among 854 matched patients with heart failure and end-stage renal disease, those treated with sacubitril/valsartan had a significantly higher risk of adverse cardiovascular events.

  • Patients on sacubitril/valsartan were more likely to experience acute myocardial infarction readmission (aHR = 1.85).
  • Heart failure readmission risk was elevated in patients receiving sacubitril/valsartan (aHR = 2.21).
  • The risk of cardiovascular death was also higher for patients treated with sacubitril/valsartan (aHR = 1.65).
  • Shorter treatment duration (less than 75 days) was associated with even greater risks of adverse events.
  • Patients on sacubitril/valsartan for 185 days or more showed a trend towards lower risks for adverse events, but findings were not statistically significant.
