Safety and effectiveness of sacubitril/valsartan for heart failure in patients with late-stage kidney disease

Updated

Abstract

Sacubitril/valsartan may benefit ESRD patients with heart failure by improving cardiac function and reducing mortality.

  • In patients with end-stage renal disease and heart failure, sacubitril/valsartan is linked to improved ventricular remodeling.
  • Enhanced left ventricular ejection fraction has been observed in ESRD patients receiving sacubitril/valsartan.
  • The use of sacubitril/valsartan is associated with reduced rates of heart failure-related hospitalizations.
  • No significant increased risk of hyperkalemia or hypotension was noted with sacubitril/valsartan treatment.
  • Current challenges and future directions for its use include health economic evaluations and adverse event management strategies.
