Safety and Blood Sugar Control of Liraglutide Around Heart Surgery

Updated

Abstract

Four trials with 446 patients found that liraglutide did not significantly affect 30-day mortality in cardiac surgery.

  • Liraglutide did not change the risk of the composite of any postoperative complications compared to usual care.
  • The incidence of cardiac adverse events was similar between liraglutide and standard treatment.
  • There was no significant difference in hypoglycemia rates between the liraglutide and insulin groups.
  • Postoperative nausea and vomiting rates were also comparable between the two treatment options.
