Health and function after COVID-19 in young marines: a follow-up study

Updated

Abstract

24.7% of SARS-CoV-2 infected US Marines developed long-term symptoms known as post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC).

  • The most common long-term symptoms included loss of taste and/or smell (41.6%), shortness of breath (37.6%), and cough (22.8%).
  • Participants with PASC reported higher rates and severity of somatic, depressive, and anxiety symptoms.
  • Those with PASC had poorer physical fitness assessments compared to a historic cohort, indicated by slower run times.
  • Physical performance remained decreased one year after initial training for Marines affected by PASC.
