JCEM case reports

Tirzepatide may cause a hormone imbalance that leads to seizures

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Tirzepatide was reported as a possible trigger of -related severe hyponatremia with seizures shortly after weight-loss initiation.

Evidence

This single case report describes a 63-year-old woman who developed tonic-clonic seizures 4 days after starting tirzepatide, with serum sodium 122 mmol/L and labs consistent with SIADH.

Caveat

Causality is uncertain because this is one case report, although the authors identified no other cause and symptoms resolved after tirzepatide discontinuation and fluid restriction.

Simplified

Key numbers
