Semaglutide added to catheter treatment for irregular heartbeats linked to obesity

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Semaglutide use around catheter ablation was associated with less atrial tachyarrhythmia recurrence in obese patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Evidence

This single-centre propensity-matched study compared 181 semaglutide-treated patients with 181 matched controls after first-time catheter ablation, using implantable cardiac monitor follow-up for 18 months.

Caveat

Because treatment was not randomized and came from a single centre, residual confounding may explain part of the lower recurrence risk.
