Abstract

In March 2024, the FDA expanded Wegovy's indications to include reducing cardiovascular events in patients with obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Wegovy is a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) approved for chronic weight management.
Medicare Part D also expanded coverage for Wegovy's new indication in March 2024.
Current evidence does not clarify the impact of these policy changes on the use of Wegovy and other semaglutide products.
