Analysis of Suicide Risk Reports for Semaglutide and Liraglutide Using World Health Organization Data

Updated

Abstract

A total of 107 cases of suicidal and/or self-injurious adverse drug reactions were reported for semaglutide, with a significant signal for suicidal ideation.

  • Significant disproportionality was detected for semaglutide-associated suicidal ideation, with a reporting odds ratio (ROR) of 1.45.
  • The signal remained significant in patients also using antidepressants (ROR, 4.45) and benzodiazepines (ROR, 4.07).
  • No significant signal was observed for liraglutide, which had 162 cases reported.
  • A disproportionality signal was defined as having lower limits of the ROR and Bayesian information component (IC) above 1 and 0, respectively.
  • The analysis was based on data from the World Health Organization global database of suspected adverse drug reactions up to August 30, 2023.
