Senkyunolide I may reduce radiation-related memory problems by improving cell cleanup and balance of oxidative stress

Updated

Abstract

Oral Senkyunolide I (SI) improved radiation-induced cognitive and behavioral impairments in mice.

  • SI was rapidly absorbed and accumulated in the hippocampus following irradiation.
  • The treatment significantly reduced oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in hippocampal tissue.
  • Mitochondrial structure and function were preserved with SI administration.
  • SI restored the process of mitophagy and activated antioxidant pathways.
  • Inhibition of autophagy or silencing of PINK1 negated the protective effects of SI.
