Simulated Weightlessness Shows Some Signs of Human Aging

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Simulated microgravity produced immune-cell transcriptional and metabolic changes that paralleled several features of human biological aging.

Evidence

Within-donor transcriptomic profiling compared PBMCs exposed to a rotating wall vessel bioreactor with matched samples collected up to 9 years later, with SCENITH validation across immune cell subsets.

Caveat

The platform models selected cellular aging signatures under simulated microgravity and does not show that it reproduces whole-body aging or clinical outcomes.
