How Slow Rocking of a Bed May Affect Sleep

Abstract

Polysomnography was recorded in 18 males aged 20-28 years over three nights to explore the effects of vestibular stimulation on sleep.

  • Lateral rocking movements did not facilitate sleep onset or increase slow oscillations during nocturnal sleep.
  • N2 sleep and the total number of sleep spindles increased during the 2 hours of vestibular stimulation compared to baseline.
