How Doctors Use Smartphones at Work in Two Different Countries

Abstract

A total of 99.0% of surveyed doctors owned a smartphone across two hospitals in Bahrain and Hong Kong.

  • Communication was identified as the main use of smartphones by 58% of doctors in Bahrain and 55% in Hong Kong.
  • Doctors in Bahrain spent more time on medical apps compared to their counterparts in Hong Kong.
  • Among junior doctors, 48% reported high reliance on smartphones, while only 32.3% of senior doctors indicated the same.
  • A majority, 78% in Bahrain and 69% in Hong Kong, agreed that smartphones should be integrated into clinical practice.
  • Nearly half of the doctors in both hospitals expressed a need for more medical applications to support smartphone use.
