Patients on GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) incurred higher out-of-pocket costs, with a median of $166.50 compared to $81.00 for those on SGLT2 inhibitors.

  • No significant difference was found in total prescription expenditures between GLP-1 RA and SGLT2 inhibitor treatments.
  • Patients on metformin with GLP-1 RA had higher out-of-pocket costs than those on SGLT2 inhibitor with metformin.
  • Total prescription expenditure was significantly higher for patients on metformin with GLP-1 RA compared to those on SGLT2 inhibitor with metformin.
  • Health-related quality of life, as measured by mental and physical component summary scores, did not show significant differences between the two treatment groups.
