Nerve Block Treatment for Headache and Thinking Problems Lasting Over a Year After Long COVID: A Case Report

Updated

Abstract

Two middle-aged female patients with postacute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) received 2 stellate ganglion blocks (SGB) each, resulting in improved cognitive function and fatigue.

  • PASC affects over 7% of the US population, presenting symptoms like pain, fatigue, and cognitive impairment.
  • Stellate ganglion block may reset autonomic activity and enhance cerebral blood flow, potentially addressing PASC symptoms.
  • Both patients tolerated the SGB procedures well, with no reported complications.
  • One patient experienced durable relief from pain, while the other had a recurrence of migraine pain.
  • Improvements in cognitive function and fatigue were observed postoperatively in both patients.
