A single injection of a new GLP-1 receptor agonist formulation sustained serum concentrations for at least 40 days.

  • The engineered injectable GLP-1 receptor agonist, known as PA-GLP1, is designed to form nanofibers and hydrogels for prolonged release.
  • In vitro studies demonstrate that PA-GLP1 can provide sustained release over multiple weeks.
  • In a rat model of type 2 diabetes, PA-GLP1 resulted in reduced blood glucose levels and less weight gain compared to daily injections of semaglutide.
  • The approach used to create PA-GLP1 may be applicable to other peptide therapies, potentially enhancing treatment options for metabolic disorders.
