Abstract
A 55-year-old woman with Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) achieved durable glycemic control and significant weight loss over five years using semaglutide.
- The patient was initially misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes and presented with several autoimmune disorders alongside class II obesity.
- Laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis of LADA, showing positive anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies and preserved fasting C-peptide levels.
- Semaglutide was initiated after discontinuing metformin due to the patient's obesity and residual pancreatic function.
- The patient maintained stable beta-cell function throughout the follow-up period without needing insulin.
- Transitioning from injectable to oral semaglutide did not affect metabolic stability.
- Limited literature supports the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists in LADA, with only two eligible case reports identified.
