Changing from telmisartan, valsartan, olmesartan, or losartan to candesartan and its effects on morning high blood pressure
Updated
Abstract
Candesartan treatment resulted in a significant reduction in morning and office blood pressures in Japanese patients with morning hypertension.
- Seventy-eight patients with mild to moderate hypertension were switched from other angiotensin II receptor blockers to candesartan.
- Morning blood pressure decreased by an average of 10.1 mm Hg and office blood pressure by 13.1 mm Hg after 12 weeks of treatment.
- Achievement rates for target blood pressures were 42.9% in the morning and 64.3% in the office.
- No adverse events were reported during the study period.
- Candesartan may be an effective option for managing morning hypertension in this patient population.
