Comparing the effects of telmisartan and valsartan on daily blood pressure in patients with mild to moderate high blood pressure
Updated
Abstract
Telmisartan 80 mg resulted in a 7.5 mmHg reduction in diastolic blood pressure over the last 6 hours compared to a 5.2 mmHg reduction with valsartan 80 mg.
- Telmisartan was associated with a significantly greater mean reduction in diastolic blood pressure compared to valsartan during the last 6 hours of the dosing interval.
- Secondary analyses indicated that telmisartan provided greater reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure during daytime and morning hours.
- Both telmisartan and valsartan demonstrated tolerability profiles similar to placebo, with no significant adverse events reported.
